Grove View Integrated Health and Care Hub

  • Architect: ECE Architecture
  • Client: Willmott Dixon
  • End Use: 98 homes for the over 55’s and a health hub for the local community

Located in Dunstable, it will bring together care professionals under one roof to deliver health and wellbeing for the local community with support from the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group.

The 6,375 square metre Hub, consisting of four storeys, will offer a wide range of services, including community mental health and children’s services.

The project’s scope also involves building 98 homes for residents over 55, offering a mixture of one and two bedroom apartments.

This project also benefited from the internal skin being Porotherm block. Which is a precision-engineered modern clay block walling system with reassuringly traditional values.

Porotherm products are a great tool to minimise environmental impact in manufacturing and assembly. It provides a complete, long term sustainability, offering increasingly sophisticated low-carbon product manufacture, but giving a building life of over 150 years with little or no maintenance.

The external skin is two different types of brick, as well as external render undertaken by A V V Solutions

“AVV Solutions were appointed as the Brickwork Contractor on for a project consisting of extension, alteration, and refurbishment of the existing Inner Temple Treasury Building. Most notably AVV are very helpful and commercially very competitive when taking on additional work. AVV’s Works began in February 2020 and they continued to work though the Covid-19 Pandemic while working to an extremely high standard and adhering to government guidance. Their approach to health and safety aligns with what Sir Robert McAlpine expects from a supply chain partner. They take physical and mental health/wellbeing of the workforce very seriously”

“Construction Manager Magazine - Nov 2020 article “The original cornicing was moulded on to the ceiling and these sections were removed and later reinstated by our restoration specialist – AVV Solutions – who had to make good every individual cornice. A lot of the plaster on the walls had de-bonded – we used a ‘knock test’ to check this – and in these cases the plaster was removed under semi-controlled conditions because of the asbestos risk. This was replaced with lime plaster. The drawback here is the time it takes to dry, probably a week for two coats. Logistics was key to managing this work. We created a programme where eBrit would hack off the plaster, then AVV would follow through to replace it, moving from room to room. It gave continuity to the work.” Heritage Plastering - AVV Solutions Ltd”

“We recently used AVV to undertake the brickwork package found them to be professional and extremely well organised. The site team were great and planned their works well in advance making the programme easy to manage for follow on trades. quality was extremely good and snagging was undertaken by the supervisor as works progressed before work was offered for inspection Being a refurbishment project there was inevitably some variation and daywork but AVV were good in their application for time and cost and the final account was easy to settle as a result I would definitely use AVV again and look forward to doing so soon.””
